The 17 Sustainable Development Goals
The private sector is crucial to meeting the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the climate goals adopted at COP21 and the EU's circular economy vision. Here, DS Stålprofil plays an important role with its expert knowledge of resource issues and investments in new technology as well as research and development. Together, we add value for all parties and make a difference through the conduct of sustainable business.
The Sustainable Development Goals comprise 17 concrete goals and 169 sub-targets, which commit all 193 UN countries to eradicate poverty and hunger in the world, to reduce inequalities, to ensure good education, ensure better health for all, secure decent jobs, more sustainable economic growth, promote peace, security and strong institutions and to strengthen international partnerships.
We meet 5 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (2022)
5 – Achieve gender equality and strengthening the rights and opportunities of women and girls.
8 – Promoting continued, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment as well as decent work for all.
12 – Ensure sustainable consumption and production.
13 – Act quickly to combat climate changes and their consequences.
17 – Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
Goal 5: Gender equality
With special attention to gender equality, we want to empower all women and girls at all levels. At DS Stålprofil, we naturally consider all genders to be equal, and this also means that we offer the same basic training and relevant continuing education. We continuously focus on developing all our employees - both professionally and personally. We recruit both girls and boys for our trainee positions and offer recruitment based on qualifications regardless of gender.
The above is based on Target 5.c.
Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth
We want to create higher economic productivity and decent work for all our employees through innovation and continuous technological upgrading. We believe this ensures sustainable growth and development of the company, benefiting both employees and the bottom line. DS Stålprofil also wants to be a natural choice for young people who want an education or trainee opportunity to contribute to a healthy development in society, where young people become part of the labour market and get a good start in life.
The issues above are included in Targets 8.2, 8.5, 8.6 and 8.8.
Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production
The aim is to effectively manage natural resources, increase recycling opportunities, reduce waste and properly dispose of toxic and polluting waste products. DS Stålprofil uses GreenCoat® steel from SSAB, which has many positive initiatives underway concerning product development towards reducing natural resources, as well as ensuring sustainable production - including fossil-free production in 2026 (Target 12.c). Steel sheets for roofs and facades also have an organic coating based on Swedish rapeseed oil.
DS Stålprofil has entered into collaborations and partnerships throughout the value chain to optimise materials and consumption, ensuring that they enter into a technical or biological cycle. In production, renewable, used or recyclable materials are used where possible, and used materials are brought back into the cycle.
Targets 12.2, 12.4, 12.5, 12.6 and 12.c are our particular focus.
Goal 13: Climate action
DS Stålprofil works with the “Cradle to Cradle” certification (C2C), which requires us to be aware of the climate impacts associated with production. We are actively addressing these impacts through the use of renewable energy and carbon offsets. In this way, our C2C certification contributes to achieving Goal 13. Furthermore, we work with modern methods and continuously introduce new technologies that ensure energy-efficient production and development for the benefit of the climate.
Goal 17: Partnerships for the goals
At DS Stålprofil, we share the UN’s central message that we must stand together to change the world. That is why we partner with companies, NGOs and other organisations that, like us, want to contribute to the circular economy in the building industry.
We work with meaningful partnerships in our home markets - Denmark and Germany:
Bio-based coatings and fossil-free steel production (GreenCoat® - SSAB.se)
In the common front for Cradle to Cradle Certification
In addition to the partnerships mentioned, we are a member of the leading organisations in sustainable construction in Denmark and Germany:
In Germany, the organisation is called IFBS Internationaler Verband für den Metallleichtbau (International Association for Lightweight Metal Construction) and which through membership of DGNB – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (German Sustainable Building Council), works for sustainability on the social, economic and environmental level - both during the building process and in the finished building. The DGNB certification was launched in 2008.
In Denmark, we are a member of Netværk for Bæredygtig Erhvervsudvikling. (Network for Sustainable Business Development)
